MIDNIGHT PATROL NETS THREE MEN
FINES TOTAL 116 In consequence of a series of visits to the Great South Road during the early hours of the morning by Traffic - Inspector Fletcher, G. Sweet and E. Wyatt, two charges, and A. L. Feltor. motor-lorry drivers, employed by the Transport and Storage Company, whose headquarter.- are in Hamilton, were charged at the Otahuhu Police Court, before Mr. F. H. Gevien, S.M., yesterday, with driving motor-lorries while fully loaded, at speeds m excess to that laid down by the motor regulations. The inspector, in evidence, said that all the vehicles came under class ].. and the limit speed allowed under the regulations was ltf.S miles an hour. He had been instructed to ask for a. penalty on account of the damage being done to the concrete on the Great South Road by excessive speeding of heavy traffic. He said that the drivers were under instructions u> carry out a time-table. E. Wyatt covered the distance through the trap on one occasion at 25.7 miles an hour. He was fined £2 and ordered to pay 10s costs, and on the second attempt he touched 35 miles an hour, which cost him £5 and court costs 10s. _A. Li. Felton was timed to exceed 35 miles an hour by a following motorcar. He was fined £5 and ordered to pay court costs totalling 10s. G. Sweet hit up 24.8 miles an hour, and was fined £2 and ordered to pay costs lOs
