Separate Highways Board for South
CABINET’S DECISION UNITED POLICY KEPT Press Association WELLINGTON, Monday. | That a separate Main Highways Board be formed for the South Island was decided by Cabinet to-day, the Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, pointing out, when interviewed, that the move was in conformity with the Government policy, as announced before the General Election. When Parliament meets it will be i asked to give authority for the establ lishment of a second board without |in any way interfering With the | fiinanee of the North Island Board. I The Prime Minister further pointed | out that already allocations are sep- ! arate.
I Sir Joseph considered that the al- ! teration would make for efficiency, but iat the same time he had the very | highest opinion of the work which had j already been done under the Act. It I was necessary to cope with the re- ! markablo development of motor traffic, \ and completely independent adminisj tration and control were being brought ; about to epable the administration to ! keep pace with the changes.
