SATURDAY’S RACING

On Saturday the Akarana Yacht Club has a busy afternoon. Cruising races to the Wade River will be conducted for classes C, E, H, L, N, V and S. Keel yachts in the A and B divisions will race to Kawau. The club has, in addition, harbour events for the M, Star, T, X and Y classes, which will be sailed in conjunction with the Tamaki Yacht Club’s races. Tamaki’s programme consists of harbour races for the same divisions as Akarana's harbour events. These Classes will start at the Akarana Club's usual line off the compass dolphin in Judge’s Bay and will sail a course to be announced later in the week and will finish off Kohimarama Wharf. Tamaki will also put on races for Z class and outboards if sufficient entries are forthcoming. On Saturday, March 23, _ the Xew Zealand Power-boat Association has arranged a series of speed-boat and outboard races to be decided on the "Whau River. The approach to tile course has been greatly improved and outboards can now be taken to the water’s edge on their trailers. Further details will’ be published later. EASTER CRUISING RACES A race to Mercury Bay for keel yachts is being arranged by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, to take place on the eve of the Easter vacation. The event, which is an item of the Mercury Bay annual regatta, will probably start from Kings Wharf on the evening of March 2S,_ which is the Thursday before Good Friday. Entries are being received by the squadron. Centreboard boats will have an opportunity to contest a race from Auckland to Woolshed Bay, Beeson’s Island, which lies at the entrance to the Coromandel Harbour. A regatta Is being held there by the Coromandel Easter carnival committee on Easter Saturday. The race, which will be open to boats from H to V, will start on the same evening as the Mercury Bay event, also off King’s "Wharf. At Coromandel visiting boats will have the chance of taking part in local regatta racing. Novel events will doubtless be entered into by aquatic men from Auckland.
