industry disturbed
POSITION IN AUSTRALIA AN ELECTION FORECAST The disturbing state of industry in Australia was commented on this morning by Mr. \\. It. Bagnall. for •5 years a member ot the New South Wales Legislative Assembly. Mr. Bagnall also forecast that Labour may take charge after the next Federal and New South Wales elec--1 °He did not contest the last election and since leaving the political arena has devoted his activities to business. "Tho recent developments in the timber and coal-mining industries have created a state of affairs which is rather disturbing,” he said this morning on the Marama. “The present position has elements of a serious character. but probably before things go 100 far peaceful councils will prevail ; s all sections of the community realise that anything in the nature of a general upheaval will produce a. state of affairs which will react most gravely on the general prosperity of Australia.
•Politically things are rather interesting. The small majorities on which both the Federal and New South "Wales State Governments live are impregnated with a dissatisfied element. This may produce a crisis. In New South Wales, if the present feeling continues, it is considered likely that the element will produce a return of the Labour opposition. Similarly there is reason to think that there will be a like result if a Federal dissolution should develop. ‘These forecasts are merely referred to us possibilities, though it can be fairly presumed that the general dislike which exists among the members of Parliament in Australia generally will, in a last analysis, stave off a crisis if it involves another election.”
Mr. Bagnall says that conditions have been depressing, but the heavy rains which have fallen in most parts of Australia have created a much better position and everything now points to a new era of prosperity and progress.
Mr. Bagnall has brought to New ZeyjbuKl the latest developments in illuminated sign publicity. lie is representing the Scanlan Electric Sign Company, the largest of its kind in Australia and has brought to the Dominion examples of the rainbow’ Neon” luminous sign, the electric newspaper and the colour animation
