ENGLISH CUP TIES The semi-finals for the English Cup will be played on March 23. and the final will be staged again at Wembley on April 27. The draw for the semifinal is: Portsmouth v. Aston Villa Bolton Wanderers v. H uddersfield. The semi-finals are played on neutral grounds, and the eyes of the Navy on the Seven Seas will all be on "Pompey.” which meets Aston Villa at Chelsea. There is sure to be a record crowd at Stamford Bridge, as Pompey drew with Chelsea there on its own ground, and then knocked them out of the Cup in the return game ai Frampton Park, Portsmouth, which is Pompey’s home ground. Villa is a hard-fighting Cup proposition, and if fortune favours the naval base there will be an unprecedented naval invasion of London, when the final is played at Wembley. There would be general leave and a general exodus from all naval depots if Portsmouth can win against Villa, and make its initial appearance at the big stadium. The meeting of Huddersfield Town and Bolton Wanderers will be another battle of the Roses, and probably Birmingham will be the centre in which the Lancashire and Yorkshire survivors will decide who goes to London.
