CAMBRIDGE WINS CUP (From our Own Correspondent) CAMBRIDGE, Monday. The Cambridge Polo Club’s'team met Matangi at Matangi on Saturday .in challenge matches for the Abbott and Somers Challenge Cups, the Matangi Club being the holders. During the afternoon some fine contests were witnessed by a large attendance. In the match for the Abbott Cup, Cambridge won a hotly contested game by five goals to four in a seven-chukka game. The teams were; Cambridge— M. Garland, T. Hines, A. McNicoll, and G. Blennerhassett; Matangi—G. Runstead, W. Phillips, R. Townsend, and V. Chitty. This is the first occasion that Cambridge has won the cup. Matangi B retained the Somers Cup by beating Cambridge B by five goals to four. The teams were: Matangi—R. Hinton, W. Ranstead, R. Ranstead, and W. Taylor Cambridge—J. Butler, W. Fisher, A. Fisher, and C. Meredith. Matangi C and Cambridge C played a drawn game, while Matangi D beat Cambridge D by five goals to two. Keen interest is being displayed in the forthcoming provincial tournament to be held at Cambridge, and it promises to be a record success, as enthusiasm in polo in the Waikato was never higher than it is at the present time.
