WILLLAMSTOWN SUCCESS TEAM HIGHLY PRAISED KEIR SECOND IN KING'S PRIZE (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) MELBOURNE, Sunday. At the Williamstown rifle-shooting meeting the second place in the King's prize was won by D. F. Keir (.New ZeaJand) with a score of 317. He beat Griffith (Melbourne) on the countback. Too winner, G. Mayhew (Melbourne) receives £ 100 and Keir wins 17 40. P. Hurlow (Victoria) was fourth with 315 and James (New Zealand) filth with SI a. both taking £lO. The following win £3 each;—Whiteman. 23rd, 310; ,T. Feast. 34th. SOS; Swanson, 35th. SOS; Masefield. 39th. 307; Boon, 49th, 306. The following win £2 each; —-Root, 304; Piper and Nix. 302; Orr. 301. Other scores were: Mclvor and Simmonds, 299; Hood and H. Feast, 296; Bolton. 290; Paterson, 257. The cup was presented by General Chauvel. Commander-in-Chief of the Australian military forces. He warmly congratulated the Dominion representatives. Colonel Merrett presented to Captain Marshall for the New Zealand team commemoration cups as mementoes of their great fight in the Merrett inter-State match. Mayhew, winner of the King’s prize, is 39 years old. He has been striving to win the event for 18 years. He is a grocer by trade. He was fourth in the Adelaide King’s prize some years ago. MORE NEW ZEALAND WINS Favoured with a medium right wind and a bright light the International Service Teams match under Gordon Highland conditions was fired to-day. The scoring was good. The New Zealand team won with an aggregate of 313. Victoria scored 300: Tasmania, 166; South Australia, 145. The New Zealanders’ scores were; Alasefield and Keir, 49; Swanson. 4S; Boon, 47; Simmonds, 42; H. Feast, 37; Soler, 25 Hood, 16.

Colonel Merrett, in announcing the result, especially congratulated the Dominion men upon their success, as it was the first time the team had fired under Australian conditions. Its total was 41 points better than the last Gordon Highland winning score by New South Wales at Perth in August, 1928.

The long-range teams match (10 shots' at 800 and 900 yards) was contested by Victoria, Tasmania and New Zealand. At the 800 yards target New Zealand scored 464, Victoria 450, Tasmania 447. Keir made a brilliant 49 and Piper 48. At the 900 yards target the wind was fickle, running from dead-in to 15 right. New Zealand won the match by 22 points with a total of 870. Victoria scored 848 and Tasmania 837. The New Zealanders’ scores were: Piper, 92; Boon, 91; Keir, 89; Whiteman, Alclvor and J. Feast, 87; Hood and H. Feast, 85; Alasefield, 84; Swanson, 83. VISITORS ENTERTAINED

The members of the Dominion team were entertained at luncheon by the Victorian Rille Association at the conclusion of the long-range match. Colonel Alerrett presided. The chairman heartily congratulated the New Zealanders.

Captain Marshall, in replying, expressed his delight at the arrangements and the hospitality shown to the team. He extended an invitation to Australian marksmen to visit New Zealand next year. The indications are that a team will make the trip. The success of the New Zealanders is sure to give an uplift to rifle shooting in the Dominion. General congratulations were extended to the visitors for their magnificent team work in the long-range match. The Dominion team will sail from Sydney for New Zealand on Friday.
