NAPIER PARK RACES
BLIMP WINS CUP WELL FAILURE OF FAVOURITE FLYING HANDICAP TO KAIHORO (Special to THE SUX) NAPIER, Friday. What looked like being the most successful meeting the Napier Park Club has held in recent years opened to-day, and was somewhat marred by gloomy weather. Betting on the early races was poor, but it improved as the day wore on, and an increase of £569 by comparison with last year was realised, the figures for the day being £12.32/ against £ll./oo tor 1928.
There was u very lair aUendanc* and the course was in splendid order. Blimp, owned by Dr. G. M. Louisson
of Christchurch, scored a fine victory in the Cup, his owner receiving in addition to the stake a handsome gold trophy. My Own, the favourite, and
one of the few first selections to score during the day, won the Sapling Stakes after a hard tussle with Ex Dono, and Kaihoro captured the Flying Handicap comfortably. Poor Contest The Hurdles was a poor race, only four starting, and two of them failing. Rory Mor and Mandarine were in front all the way to the last ience, where Mandarine fell. Braemar finished solidly and beat Rory Mor by six lengths. Panorama had fallen earlier, and Mandarine was remounted and got third money. The latter should win a mile and a-half hurdle race, and Rory Mor is due soon.
With Sylvan Dell and Vernera scratched from the Esk Hack Handicap, Bernera was backed to favouritism. but he was bad at the barrier, and delayed the start. Tom Byrne and Mangahaeri led till nearing the straight, but Bernera was coming up last and now lay third. Down the straight Mangahaeri went to the front, .iust ahead of Imperial Fame, who shot up on the outside to leave Tom Byrne. Bernera hung on to third position, with Keen lying fourth, and this was the order passing the post, Mangahaeri getitng home by half a length, with a head separating second and third. Bernera lost his chance at the start. Chief Singer should improve. Favourite Wins My Own was favourite for the Sapling Stakes, and as soon as the field was released, he took the lead, with San Quex close behind and Lordlike and Ex Dono lying next. Entering the straight this order was maintained, with the rest of the field bunching up. In an exciting finish, My Own got home by half a length from Ex Dono, with San Quex a length away third. Admiral Drake got poorly away and finished fourth. Blimp Scores Well The Cup was an interesting race. Joy King led through the straight, with Commendation, Concentrate, Royal Lineage, White Fang and Battlement following in that order. Passing the stand White Fang came up wtih Blimp, but otherwise the order remained the same. Round the back Commendation took the lead, with White Fang lying second, and Singleton, Royal Lineage and Blimp strung out in that order. Entering the straight White Fang .had the lead from Commendation and Singleton, with Concentrate and Blimp lying fourth and fifth respectively. The latter two came up with a rush however, Blimp shooting to the front to win by two lengths from Concentrate, with Singleton third half a length behind. High Court was fourth, Battlement next, and Joy King last. Commendation and Joy King should soon do better. Concentrate is very well, but Blimp won handsomely. Favourite Beaten The Swell touched a very short price in the Autumn Handicap, while there was fair support for Merry Mint and King Willonyx. Merry Mint and Road Hog were prominent to the straight, where Merry Mint tired, and King Willonyx came along nicely and won by half a length from Road ITog, who was three lengths in front of Merry Mint. The Swell was fourth. Tresham is among those the race should improve. First Out First Heme
The jump out had a lot to do with the result of the Maiden. Kinross was first away, and he sailed along at the head of a strung-out field all the way. Mothplane came from the middle of the field, and tackled him in the straight, but Kinross hung on just long enough to win by half a length. Mouri Rangi was a fair third and Irish Court and Dainty Ways next. Mothplane, who has run a lot of seconds, was unlucky. From End to End
The Flying Handicap was -won from end to end by Kaihoro, who paid a better price than expected. Ridgemount was out after the leader early; in the race, but his weight told, and in the finish he faded to tail off the field. Moa Bird, after suffering interference, ran on fairly well, and was two lengths away second, while Jeanette was a close third. Epistle. Rapine and Merry Damon were next. Moa Bird looks more solid than formerly, and should soon come good. Backers were well on the mark in the Redclyffe Hack Handicap, Archeria and Shrewd both being solidly backed, and they were out in front all the way, Archeria eventually winning by half a length from Shrewd, who just beat Rory Mor. Topere and Rich Harvest followed close up. Archeria won really well, but Rory Mor was unlucky. Following are the results: Omaruanui Hurdles, of £l5O, 13 —3 Braeman (Mr. T .
