NEW JERSEY RECORD
By producing 1,070.451 bof butterfat, equivalent to 1,2601 b of butter, in 278 days, the Jersey cow, Jersey Surprise, owned by Mr. H. S. Mountain, Groombridge Place, Kent, has established a world’s Jersey butter-fat record In the 305 days’ test. Calving on November 25, 1927, she yielded in slightly over nine months 13,6661 b of milk, with an average but-ter-fat percentage of 7.53. Despite the fact that she was in calf again by the middle of February, and calved again on November 22, 1925, she milked steadily, averaging almost five gallons daily over the whole period, and it was only with difficulty that she was dried off in order to give her some rest before calving again. Her highest yield was under six gallons in the day, and her highest butterfat test was 12 per cent. She is still a young cow, having been born on May 27, 1922.
