The Four Stages of Hair-Growing

Hairdressers tell us many sad stories of the women who have tried to grow their hair, but have had it sheared off again when they have reached the almost shoulder-length stage—the most desperate stage of all —When, it is too long to be hidden and too short to be dressed.

Something had to be done about it, decided a well-known firm who specialise in “notions.” So they set someone down to think hard, with the following result. The First Stage

Stage one, when the hair is just about an inch long, any woman can manage tor herself with the aid -of the curling-tongs and a few invisible hairpins. Stage two is the time of

untidy straggling growth, and this is where the first notion comes in. It consists of a neat puff of hair fitted to a light and invisible frame, which is fixed by means of two strong spring hairpins. The makers guarantee that (he hair is of European origin, and, what is more, the puff is quite hygienic, inasmuch as the hair may be detached from the frame for washing and combing. Or, those wise women who kept their cut-off locks

may have their own hair made up into a puff. Stage three no longer requires the puff, for the hair is of sufficient length to be turned up. But it needs some assistance if it is to remain turned up

and not straggle in wisps below the brim of the hat. The necessary firmness is achieved by the use of a feather-weight Ijair frame, specially designed to fit the nape of the neck. Around this the hair may be neatly coiled and pinned. For Older People

There is a fourth stage for some, and women not quite in their first youth have discovered that hair does not grow so long again -as before it it was cut. For such as these there is a combined frame and puff, which enable the wearer to fix her own hair neatly, and cover up its shortcomings with the aid of the puff. So many smart women are growing their hair just now that no one need fear that her head has an unfashionable appearance just because her locks are midway between short and long! But every woman wishes to look as neat as possible during the process.
