UNDERPAID PAINTERS

TELEGRAM TO MINISTER INVESTIGATION PROMISED It is reported that painters employed at the Hpbsonville Airdrome are working at less than the award rates. The question has been taken up by M.r. M. J. Savage, M.P., who forwarded the following telegram £o the Minister of Public AVorks, the Hon. L. A. Ransom:

“Five painters employed at the Ilobsonville Airdrome are being paid 2s lssd an hourf Private employers in similar circumstances are compelled to pay 2s 3d an hour and 5s a day country allowance. Trust you will see that award rates are paid in all Government works of this nature.” The following reply, was received this morning from Mr. Ransom: “Your telegram re painters at Hobsonville received. Will be pleased to look carefully into tl;e position without delav ”
