ANCHORED ISLES. —In the House of Commons the Secretary of State for Air, Sir Samuel Hoare, said his Ministry was closely watching an American company’s proposal to lay down permanently anchored island stations in the Atlantic for the use of airmen.— A.P.A.-U.S. FOR CLOSER UNION,- -The political correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says the Cabinet has given its general approval to the proposals of the Hilton Young Commission for a closer union of the dependents in Eastern and Central Africa. It is proposed to appoint a High Commissioner to work out arrangements for modifying the constitution of Kenya.— A. and N.Z.-P.A. BRAVE GIRL’S REWARD. —M r. George Tinsley, a native of Sedgeley, 'Wolverhampton, who died at the age of 81. spent many years in sheepfarming in New Zealand. He left £2,300 to a girl named Megan Lewis, aged 17. of Llanrwst, Denbighshire. When Miss Lewis was only nine years old she saved Mr. Tinsley’s life by stopping a runaway horse from which he was hanging by the stirrups.—A. and N.Z.-P.A. TROTSKY NOT WANTED. —The French Cabinet has refused the request of Leo Trotsky, who has been exiled from Russia, and is at present in Turkey, for permission to reside in France. A warrant of expulsion issued against Trotsky at the time of the war is still in force and he Government sees no reason for withdrawing it.—A. and N.Z.-P.A.
