r pO find a performance equal to that of Archie Jackson, who scored a century in his first Test mate* - n e age of 19, it is neces .o delve back in Test histrry as far as 1887, when J. J. Ferris, then under 20 years of age, took four for 27 and five for 76, in his first Test game. The youngest player who ever played in Test cricket was T. W. Garrett, who represented Australia at the age of 18. Clem Hill was a few months older than Garrett when ho played in his first Test game, and he was 20 years old when he played his famous innings of 188 at Melbourne, after Australia had lost six wickets for 57. Victor Trumper was 21 when he made his first century in Test cricket, but an Englishman, J. W. Hearne equalled Hill’s performance bv getting 114 for England at Melbourne, when two months short of his 21st birthday.
