PROGRESSIVE CROQUET
Yesterday an enjoyable progressive croquet, afternoon was arranged by Mrs. Hugh Lacy and Mrs. W. Beaumont, the match committee of the Devonport Bowling Green Croquet Club, on the lawns at Devonport. Mrs. J. W. Lowe was the winner of the A grade prize and Mrs. McDougall secured the B grade. Consolation prizes went to Mrs. Rice and Mrs. Beaumont. Among those present were: Mrs. Harty, the president, Mrs. S. Beck. Mrs. McDougall,' Mrs. Gray, Mrs. Penrose, Mrs. Bruce, Mrs. Lacy, Mrs. Beaumont, Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. J. W. Lowe, Mrs. F. E. Mason, Mrs. Warren, Mrs. Broughton, Mrs. Newbegin, Mrs. Blaclvburn, Mrs. F. Burgess, Mrs. Cotes, Mrs. Carl Prime, Mrs. Prime, senior, Mrs. Robert Duder, Mrs. Rice, Mrs. Griffiths. Mrs. Watson, Mrs. H. King and Mrs. Jackman. TAMAKI BOATING CLUB BRIDE-ELECT ENTERTAINED Tlio Kingsford Hall, Otaliuhu, was the scene of a very enjoyable social evening recently, when a large number of members and supporters of the Tamaki Boating Club met to do honour to Miss Dulcie Nicliolls and Mr. Harold Smith, in view gf their approaching marriage. The function took the form of a grocery evening, and the guests of honour were the recipients of a good stock of necessary commodities. Dancing, competitions. and community games whiled away the time, dance music being provided by Mr. and Mrs. Deverill, Mrs. Viney, Mrs. Fugle, and Mrs. Wheeler.
A number of very enjoyable, musical items were interspersed with the dances, and were given by 311‘s. Green—ull. vocal 5010: Mrs. Fuglc and Miss A. Clark. vocal duct: Miss E. Bailey, Russian dance Mr. H. Nicholls and Mr. .I. Nicholls, vocal duet. During the evening Mr. J. E. \‘incy, commo—dore of the club. presented the gifts to the guests at honour.
GARDEN PARTY OPOTIKI FUNCTION The Opotiki Women’s Institute held a garden party at Mrs. J. Main’s residence on Saturday. There were several competitions, including croquet, won by Mrs. Talbot: clock golf, won by Mrs. Forbes; bag-throwing, in which Mrs. Newth Avon the prize: and miniature rifle shooting, in which Mrs. Cooper and Master Ewen Merry were victors. The beautifully decorated cake, made and donated by Mrs. Walter Scott, was Avon by Mr. C. Clark. Mrs. McAlister carried off the snowball presented by Mrs. Massicano, and Mrs. T. Burke won the raffia tray. Mrs. Talbot as a fortuneteller Avas a centre of attraction. The ice-cream stall was managed by Mrs. Elza Fleming, Nina Kemp and Leila Clark, and Avas Avell patronised. Mrs. Burton and Mrs. Absolom were in charge of the produce stall, and good business resulted. Mesdames Crawford, Ivemp, Burrett, Newth, Sydenham, Black, HathaAvay, Voss and Mansell Avere hostesses and provided afternoon tea. A vote of thanks to Mrs. Main brought the gathering to a close. The sum of £l3 Avas added to the institute’s funds as a result of the party. TENNIS DANCE AT TE PUKE The Te Puke Central Tennis Club held a dance in the Alliance Theatre on Wednesday evening. Music AA r as supplied by the Elite Orchestra and extras Avere played by Miss Plaice and Mr. R. Mollgaard. Those present Avere: Mesdames A. Cummings, biscuit crepe de chine; A.
