DRINKLESS AFTERNOON

LICENSING ELECTION HOTELS CLOSE ON TUESDAY A public half-holiday will be declared in the Auckland city licensing district on Tuesday, when the election of licensing committees will take place in the Auckland East, Auckland West and Auckland Central electorates. L'nder section 39 of the Licensing Act, all business houses must close from mid-day. All hotels in the area concerned will close their bars at 12 o’clock, leaving only one hotel, in Newmarket, open all day. This exception is because of a change of boundaries which brought it into the Parnell electorate. As only five nominations were received for the Parnell Committee, no election is necessary in that electorate, ! and therefore no holiday is necessary.
