“SCHEME NOT WARRANTED” KARANGAHAPE ROAD PROTEST A protest against the proposed Belgium Street traffic tunnel scheme was made by the Karangahape Road Business Promotion Society. By resolution the society expressed the view that the scheme should receive further consideration by the incoming council. It was also contended that the new city engineer should be asked to report. Ihe objection was that there was no serious traffic congestion in Newton warranting prosecution of the scheme, rh© joint Works and Financial Committee was deputed to deal with the objection.
