MAKING AMERICA "DRY”

HOOVER TO TAKE STEFS WILL, START ON WASHINGTON (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) WASHINGTON, Wednesday. It is announced that the first step in the attempt to be made by the President, Mr. Herbert Hoover, to render the nation “dry” will be an effort to bring about that condition in Washington. The means he proposes to take # 4.re to force respect for the law in official circles by the great social power of White House. J.t is generally understood that the members of the new Cabinet and their assistants will be asked not to serve liquor in their homes nor to drink it in homes where it is served. The belief is that this request would make it embarrassing for all hosts to serve liquor in the capital and the probable result would be a great lessening of drinking in official circles. The same request is expected to be made to judges and Federal district-attorneys. This would extend the new system beyond the capital.
