DEAD MAN WINS £4,000

WEIRD CASINO TRAGEDY

A STRANGE COURT CASE

Australian and N.Z. Press Associatioti. PARIS, Wednesday.

An extraordinary tragedy of a gaming table in the Riviera will shortly come before the law courts.

An elegantly dressed man entered a casino and put a 1,000-franc counter on a certain number, which won. The gambler did not withdraw his winnings, but remained with his head buried in his hands, motionless. Play was continued and the same number won several times in succession, the croupier each time adding to the gambler’s winnings until they totalled £4,000. As the man still remained motionless a woman touched him in order to wake him. She found to her horror that he was dead. It transpired that death was due to heart failure following upon a heavy meal.

Play was stopped and the body was removed.

The man’s widow now is claiming the winnings. The proprietors of the Casino are disputing the claim. They argue that if the deceased had played while he lived it was doubtful whether he would have left his repeated winnings on the same number.
