RABAUL VILLAGE BATTLE
CLASH WITH OFFICIALS MURDERER ARRESTED (United P.A.—By Telegraph—Copyright J Reed. 11 a.m. SYDNEY, To-day. Details were received by the ship Maraina, which has arrived from Rabaul. of an attack which was made a month ago upon a Government party in the Ononge district.
It appears that two patrol officers and a party of native police went to the village of Goilala to attempt the arrest of a native murderer. The villagers showed open hostility, and in
a resulting conflict, one native policeman was wounded and nine Goilala men were shot.
The murderer was eventually arrested and is now awaiting trial.
