WITH THE BOY SCOUTS

The Assistant Commissioner, Mr. E. B. B. Boswell, has received letters from Scoutmaster Louis Mahabir, of th© First Toorak Troop, Suva, and Master M. Billy Nityaimnd, treasurer of the First Samabula Arya Troop, Suva, expressing their appreciation of all that was don© in scouting circles to make their stay in New Zealand a pleasant one. The members of the Indian party send their kind wishes to headquarters staff and all the Scouts and Scouters whom they met during their tour. The trip back to Fiji was comparatively rough, but all the boys were well on arrival. Since returning to Suva, Scoutmaster Shankar Pratap, of the First Samabula Arya Troop, has ! been on th© sick list and was therej fore unable to write. He has sent i Redfeather a copy of the Jubilee number of "Vaidik Sandesli,” an illustrated journal, printed mainly in Hindustani by the Indian Printing and Publishing Co., Ltd., for Pandit Shrikrishna I Sharma, Suva. Included is a photo - i graph of the First Samabula Arya i Troop. J In the Auckland district at present | there is room for development in Scout 1 service as hundreds of boys are wait- } ing to join up as soon as the opporl tunity occurs. With the right type of j men coming forward as Scoutmasters I many new troops could be formed, ' and it is stated that those who take ! up the work find it so full of interest ! that they carry on often at great in- ! convenience to themselves. j District Scoutmaster K. L. Dyer pre- * sided over a meeting of Scouters of ! No. 3 Area last Monday evening in St. j Barnabas’s Troop Den, and forwards | the following report: ■ The object of the meeting was to ; discuss ways and means of promoting i the welfare of the troops in the Area, j and to further the interests of Scout- ' craft in the district. An invitation : from the Rev. E. T. Olds to attend a i Scouts’ Own Service was accepted and ! a committee formed to make arrangeI ments. Th© date will be announced later. | It was decided to recommend to the i Advisory Board that arrangements be made for an Auckland District Rally j to be held on August 3 to coincide with i the International Jamboree celebra- ! tions in England of the 21st year of i Scouting. June 1 was selected as a suitable date for a Rally of No. 3 Area. Display I arrangements were left in the hands of ! the District Scoutmaster, and each troop will shortly receive instructions as to the display it is deemed most j suitable to stage. The District Scout--1 master announced that he will shortly i give a series of three talks on the | theoretical part of the Wood Badge | Course, which should prove helpful to i those who are desirous of taking up i the course. J It was decided to dispense with the I use of the words “Area” and "District” and use the word “Tribe” when referring to No. 3 District. , Referring to last Saturday's Rally j the District Scoutmaster expressed i pleasure at the way No. 3 turned out. ! In numbers and appearance it was most encouraging. The numerical strength of the Tribe at present is. roughly, 300. with about 20 Scouters i and Assistants. i It is hoped that the combined

efforts of the Scouters will result in a revival of Scouting interest and enthusiasm, not only in the Tribe, but in the whole district.
