CHANGE WANTED
NORTHCOTE TRANSPORT REQUEST FOR LEGISLATION A properly constituted board, instead of the . present licensing authority, is desired by the Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association of Northcote for that district. This request was conveyed to the Northcote Borough Council at its meeting last evening. The present licensing authority for the Marine Suburbs No. 2 Motor Omnibus district is the Devonport Borough Council, but a change is desired, and a resolution to this effect was conveyed to the Northcote council last evening. It was previously stated that, if the council endorsed the proposal, the sup port of the member for Waitemata, Mr. Alex Harris, would be solicited to have the necessary legislation brought forward to effect the change. This the council had done and the following reply was received from Mr. Harris: “So far the promised legislation constituting a composite licensing authority for No. 2 licensing district has not been introduced, but I have requested the Minister of Public Works to have it prepared for submission to Parliament during next session. Your council will remember the former Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) promised such legislation, but pressure of work prevented it being brought down last session. I have no doubt the new Parliament will accede to my request, but of that I will advise you as soon as a reply from the Minister of Public Works reaches me.”
