In splendid weather and before a large attendance, the Victorian Racing Club’s carnival was continued at Flemington to-day, when the Australian Cup was the chief attraction. j An outsider in the shape of Athalie won the Hopeful Stakes nicely. The trainer, W. Foulsham, had a previous success in the same race with Redj shank. Mytanis led always in the Elms Handicap, and won nicely. He is a , full-brother to Morell, who was reI cently raffled in aid of the Lord ! Mayor’s fund by the owner, Mr. E. E. D. | Clarke.

In the decision of the March Steeplechase Le Procyn was prominent throughout and won a good race. The owner, Mr. A. T. Craig, also races Bitalli. A field of fifteen was paraded for the Australian Cup, and it furnished a great race. Some Quality, who was third from last at the mile, made a fin© run and won in the last few strides from Kidaides and Octember, who fought out an exciting battle for second place. Mondiaga had every chance. Some Quality won recently at Port Adelaide, and has now won stakes to the value of £8,463 as the result of six wins, 14 seconds and eight thirds. She was one of the favourites for the Australian Cup since the weights were, declared. The total value of the stake attached to the Australian Cup is £3,618, of which £2,718 goes to the owner of the. winner. North Star led throughout in the Nursery Handicap and won easily. He cost 575gns as a yearling and lias recorded two wins and a third in four starts.

There was a great finish in the Bourke Handicap, Pecunis coming on at great pace and making a dead heat of it in the last stride with Gilt Edge The latter is owned by Mr. A. T. Craig.
