CONCRETE OR BITUMEN?

ROADS AT MOUNT ROSKILL In discussing the prospects of the proposed loan for concreting MoLint Albert Road at the meeting of the Mount Roskill Road Board last evening, Mr. G. E. Tansley expressed the opinion that a loan for paving all the main roads in bitumen would have a better chance of being carried than the proposal to confine the expenditure to Mount Albert Road.

Such thoroughfares as Buckland Road, Waikowhai Road and others were subjected to such heavy traffic that the board would sooner o,r later be compelled to reconstruct them in some permanent material, and the sympathy of the ratepayers would be gained more readily if a comprehensive scheme were submitted and the works spread over a wider area. Mr. S. I. Goodall also advocated a comprehensive scheme. Other members feared that residents beyond Mount Albert Road would withhold their consent to a loan for concreting this highway alone to the neslect of the other main roads. It was decided, however, to go on with the Mount Albert Road loan forthwith.
