THE tr&neral tone of the market is excellent and a larger volume of business is being transacted. All insurance shares are keenly sought after, while Waihi scrip remains weak.
Most bank shares are in demand, • and numerous sales are being reported. , Commercial of Australia, ordinary, j .selling freely at 295. Australasia are i keenly asked for, while Union of Aus- j tralia remain steady at about £ls 9s. In the coal section. Hikurangi are slowly improving. Pukemiros are firm, j buyers quoting 86s 6d, sellers asking Renown ( pref.) maintain a high ; figure. Taupiri and Westport are also J in demand. * * * ; Auckland Gas are selling freely at 34s 9d, leaving the market firm. Gis- | borne are asked for at 10s. but fail to attract a seller. Whittome Stevenson are slowly firm- j ing. and are keenly watched by inves- j tors. Wilsons ((X.Z.) Portland Cement | have found a buyer at 40s, sellers quot- ! ing 40s 3d. sales at 40s.
