MOTOR-CAR’S PLUNGE DRIVER BLINDED BY SMOKE (From Our Oxen Correspondent) PAEROA, Monday. Through falling into a burning swamp, near Paeroa, a new motor-car driven by Mr. Kennedy, of Auckland, was destroyed by fire. There are extensive swamp fires near Tirohia. and Mr. Kennedy was almost blinded with smoke. It was so thick that he failed to notice a turn in the road. He felt the front wheels of the car going over a bank and, although the brakes were applied, the car tipped over and fell on to the burning swamp. Mr. Kennedy managed to free himself from the vehicle, which burst into flames and was soon a total wreck. The shock so seriously affected Mr. Kennedy that it was some hours before he could speak. He walked into Paeroa. a distance of about four miles.
