WILFULLY DAMAGED

TREES IN MT. EDEN STREETS BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETS In the Works Committee’s report presented to the Mount Eden Borough Council last evening, Cr. Morris notified that trees in Richmond Street iii the Mount Eden district had apparently been wilfully destroyed. Mr. Morris explained that all the trees on the one side had been broken off late one night. Asked by the Mayor, Mr. E. A. Potter, if he had reported the damage to the police, he said he thought it better to refer to the council, as its committee could then take up the question of direct protection. The report of the finance, works, fire brigade and of the building inspector were adopted. The foreman of the brigade reported that for three weeks ending February 27, seven fires had occurred. Building permits for the month were of a total value of £7,266, including seven houses, a shop and a service station. A request from two Dominion Road theatres to screen suitable pictures on Good Friday was left in the hands of the Mayor. The borough engineer, in his report, stated that satisfactory progress was being made with the construction of the trunk sewers connected with the southern part of the 'combined drainage system. Under present conditions the whole contract would be completed before the wet season set in.
