Records Made at Muriwai

The biggest event on the Muriwai Beacli for the past seven years has been the N.Z. Motor Cup, latterly run over a distance of 50 miles. The detailed results are as follow:

The cup was won three times in succession and therefore held permanently by Mr. R. B. Wilson. His Stutz is a big car with a 3 3-16 in. bore by 64in. stroke, and rated at 4848ee., as compared with 1 -1- litre Bugattis, 1500 cc. The equivalent race this year is the Australasian Beach Handicap, for a distance of 25 miles with 20 turns. The highest official speed recorded on New Zealand beaches was 109.19 m.p.li. by C. W. F. Hamilton’s 1944 “Sunbeam” at Oreti. Invercargill last summer. Unofficial speeds of 115 m.p.li. have been made.
