At the Williamstown rifle rango there are numerous tents and bivouacs of the competitors in the Victorian Rifle Association’s meeting, who have been practising for the past week. The events were begun to-day which will lead up to the opening stages of the King’s Prize on Wednesday. The final phase of that event will be on Friday. Merrett’s teams match, the principal objective of the New Zealand an.l inter-State teams, will be fired on | Thursday. Among the notable marks- | men who have entered is F. Having been re- ! stricted to light practice during too hot weather, to-day’s fine weather, with a strong light and cool wind, v/as a welcome relief to them. James, of Napier, won the match, the Frank Stuart (10 shots at 300 yards). He took the 10 rounds with the possible, and, continuing, registered 17 consecutive bulls-eyes—-a magnificent performance. was warmly congratulated by the Australians.
