r i . e CRUISING CLUBS EVENTS E The Manukuu Cruising Club's Echampionship races on Saturday were iravoured with nice weather conditions, 'a medium breeze with smooth watch i These facts accounted for the launches in their class race all breaking their times, one by 3:} minutes l at r; * 1n the 20ft championship for the Dennison Cup, Florence was first past the starter. Aonia, VVaiupu, Alyru, Sylvia, Sea Horse, Champagne and Miss Mae all got good starts, but Sylvia, Sea Horse and Champagne stood into the flood tide and lost position. With a “slog” to W'aikowhai and a run back, several bouts changed places, but on the reverse tour Aoma, for some reason, stood along the Mangere shore and lost the benefit of the ebb tide. The finishing order was Aoma, VVaiapu and Myra. The Dennison Cup goes to Aorna. The 20ft championship, which was sailed with the Cup race, was won by \Vaiapu. } 1k it a i ‘ In the 16ft championship only two ;boats started. though the event was scheduled with the McGahan Cup. Sea. Gnome, with the bigger sail, found the weather more to her liking than did her opponent Nyria, and led in by half an hour. 7t 3F * On Saturday week the Manukau Yacht Club will hold championships for the 14-footer and 18-footer classes, and some good racing is expected. The Manukau Yacht and Motor-Boat Club states that nominations for the Kedmath Cup race for launches, 14ft and 18ft, open championships for yachts, close at the clubhouse at 9 p.m. on Monday, March 11. The club will regret to lose Mr. N. Wilson as supervisor of the 12ft Gin class yachts. It is due to his untiring efforts that the Cornwell Cup class on the Manukau has reached its pres—l ent standard. Yachtsmen .will wish l\lr. VVilson success in his new appointment. Mr. Reg Belcher has just returned‘ from a, very enjoyable cruise on the( lVlanukau, having visited most of the!l way ports and spent a. pleasant time< on the water.
