TRANSLATIONS OF DUMAS WHANGAREI MAN’S GENEROSITY (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGAREI, To-day. “The almost priceless library of Mr. Reed is probably better known in London, Baris and New York than it is in Whangarei," said the chairman of the Municipal Library Committee at the meeting of the Whangarei Borough Council last evening. Mr. F. W. Reed, of Whangarei. who has been a careful collector of books and first editions for over a quarter of a century and is well known in the. literary circles of London and Paris, is an authority on Durtias, whose works he has translated, has bequeathed his original translations «*f Dumas, many of them being unpublished works, to the Auckland Publi«* Library. Copies of these translations and the balance of his choice library, afterspecified exceptions, he has bequeathed to the Whangarei Public Library under a deed and conditions of gift that were agreed to. At the council meeting last evening a special resolution was placed on record expressing the council’s appreciation of Mr. Reed’s public-spirited generosity in making this great gift to the town.
