Steady Demand For Good Securities By "Noon Call.” THE week on 'Change opened quietly this morning, with a steady demand for all the better-class securities. The volume of business registered was not big.
FLUCTUATIONS: Movements shown in sales made during 1 the past 24 hours, compared v\ith prices at the time of the previous reported sale, include the following: Auckland Gas (con.), rise 7d. The new issue of cont: •• ting shares was sought at 13s this morning. New Zealands had a middle prh - of ISfl *>d at mid-day All insurance shares are strongly •i. with a comparatively big margin between buyers’ and sellers’ ideas of v line. Little business is being done in the section. In the loan and agency up sellers of Dalgetys came in this morning to ask £ls 16s 6d. with buyers improved to £ls 12s 6d, Is above the market at the time of the last reported sale.
In the coal group. Renowns are slightly* easier, sellers of the ords at 17s 9d being unsupported. The preferei issue is very firm, with no sellers, and buyers at 2s lid. The timber group is very weak, interest even in Kauris having lapsed during the week-end. Bartholomew’s were the only shares sought. * * * Mining shares continue to attract the speculative element, but buyers’ j prices are mostly well below sellers’ ideas of value. Waihis show-’ a firmer tendency’, sales being made at Id in advance of Saturday’s market. More j were wanted on that level at mid-day’, but sellers held for 13s sd.
