Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. The attempt by W. E. Francis tc swim from Wellington to Petone yes- ; terday proved unsuccessful. After 1 two miles, over which Francis had j the benefit of three different pactmakers, he gave up owing to the low i temperature of the water. He was feeling fit, but considered it was only £ ' question of whether he pulled out ilier ; or later.
