WELSH SERVICE YESTERDAY
CELEBRATING ST. DAVID’S DAY A service almost entirely in Welsh was held in St. James’s Church, Wellington Street, yesterday afternoon, and was well attended by the many Welsh people living in the city. The sermon was preached from the parable of the Prodigal Son, by the Rev*. R. C. Roberts, 8.A., 8.D., who was assisted by the Rev. Morgan Richards and the Rev. Evan R. Harries. The service was held in connection ■with the Welsh Society’s celebrations in connection with St. David’s Day. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCHES “Christ Jesus” was the subject of the Besson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, yesterday. The golden text was from Isaiah fxi: 1: "The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord hath annointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; He hath sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captive, and the opening of prison i„o them that arc bound.” Amorg the citations was the follow - ing from the Bible: “Behold the da *y comes, saith the Lord, that I will rail se unto David a righteous branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and sly all execute judgment and justice in i jie earth. In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safe jly: and this is his name whereby he s hall be called, the Lord our righteousm iss.” Jeremiah xxiii: 5, 6. The lesson-sermon also included/ the following passage from the Chri jstian Science textbook: "Ifisus was thf* offspring of Mary’s self-conscious communion with God. Hence He could give a more spiritual idea of lif» * than other men, and could demonstr? ite the science of Father or Divine principle. Born of a woman. Jesus’s ad.vent in the flesh partook partly of Mary’s earthly condition, although He was- endowed with the Christ, the Divine spirit, without measure. 7 *his accounted for His struggles in Gethsemane and on Calvary, and th.’ s enabled Him to be the mediator or wa y-shower, between God and men. Had His origin and birth been wholly apart from mortal usage, Jesus would not have been appreciable to mortal mind as the way.
