Whiting, of the teachingstaff of the Rotorua Primary School, is seriously ill in King George V. Hospital. Miss G. M. Manson is engaged at the school as relieving teacher. The marriage of Miss Marion Lowry to Dr. Bettington will take place on March 11 at Okawa. Miss Enid Falkiner is to be one of the bridesmaids, the others being Misses Ruth Scannell (Hastings), E. Lloyd and M. MacFarlane. Dr. Bettington’s brother will be best man, and Mr. Leslie Hill, of Moree, New South Wales, groomsman. WAIKATO NOTES (From Our Oicn Correspondent) Mrs. R. M. Masters, of Hillcrest, is on a motor tour in North Auckland. Mrs. D. McNicol and Miss Mary Beale are holidaying on the Thames coast. Mrs. V. H. AT HOME AT GORDONTON The Dean and Mrs. Barnet gave an “At Home” in the hall at Gordonton last Tuesday. Recitations and musical items were given by Mrs. Passfield, Miss R. Johnstone, Miss Kirby and Mr. Braith waite. FAREWELL PARTIES On Thursday afternoon Mrs. S. Lewis and her daughter, Miss Jean Caw, who will sail for England in about ten days’ time, were the guests of honour at a delightful party given by Mrs. J. Bryce at her home in Cambridge. The large drawing-room and the verandah were decorated With masses of golden and brown sunflowers and zinnias. Mrs. Bryce wore a frock of mauve georgette. Mrs. Lewis wore a navy and white spotted crepe de chine frock. Miss Jean Caw was in a white crepe de chine suit. Two amusing competitions before tea were won by Mrs. O. Gane and Mrs. S. Lewis. TENNIS PARTY AT SCHOOL COURTS On Saturday afternoon some of the Old Girls of the Hamilton High School arranged a jolly Yankee tournament among themselves on the school courts. '' 10 Ilaci arranged a surprise partv in honour of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wilkins, who leave Auckland this week for England.
