RIFLE SHOOTING

The third shoot in the fourth trophy series was fired by the City and Suburbs Rifle Club at 500 and 600 yards. Conditions except for the heat were very good, and although no very high scoring was registered, the competitions in both grades were very keenly contested. Spoons were won by C. J. M. Clark and S. Griffiths, and trophy points to date have been won as follow:—A grade: R. C. Russel, Patrick Pring and Clark, 3 each; Spry, Pieterson and Verrall, 2 each. B grade: Cozens and Griffiths, 5 each; Verrall, 3: Spry and Kelly, 2 each; Sommer - ville, 1. Results are: A GRADE C. J. M. Clark, 46, 45, 91; P. J. Pring, 44. 45, 89: H. J. Verrall, 46, 43, 89; A. Patrick, 47, 42, 89; J. A. Spry, 46, 42, 88; M. IT. Russell, 4S, 39, 87; A. J. Pieterson, 43, 43, 86; W. IT. Thompson, 43, 37, 80; G. 11. Hughes, 43, 35, 75. B GRADE S. Griffiths (4), 44, 41, 89: H. W. Cozens (3), 43, 40, S 6; G. G. Kelly (2), 42, 42, SC; A. Sommerville (1), 40, 45, 86; I. Spry (scr), 43. 43, 86; G. P. Birks (1), 44, 36, 81; J. Cutler (2), 42, 36, SO; G. W. Long (10), 31, 26, 67. The ranges next Saturday will be 300 and 500 yards.

The new propeller recently fitted to the Mauretania is of manganese bronze and cost £3,000. Automatic traffic signdls have been used in Leeds (England) for some months, and seem quite_ successful.
