Girl Betrays Gunman In Chicago Massacre

ARREST BY THE POLICE RECENT GRIM MURDERS (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. CHICAGO, Friday. Jack Magurn, who is rated the ace of gangster machine-gunners, was arrested and charged with leading the St. Valentine’s Day massacre. He occupied a suite in the Stevens Hotel, three floors above where the State Attorney’s investigators of this crime were quartered. Magurn was Scarface Al. Capone’s chief machine-gunner. His sweetheart, who was found with him in his hid-ing-place, and who is being protected by detectives against the intimidation which has ruined other witnesses, held the key to the massacre mystery. Even the newspapers have agreed to shield her identity. She is a pretty blonde.

The police intimated that the girl had related the whole story of the massacre. The newspapers call the girl Louise Rolfe, but although she is the centre of the greatest crime story in America, the newspaper photographers have agreed not to take her photograph, and reporters will not interview her. In this manner they are assisting the police. The massacre of February 14 was one of the most cold-blooded crimes in the city’s history. Two automobile loads of gangsters raided a garage where a cartage company had its headquarters and murdered seven employees with sawed-off shotguns. The roar of shots was so great that persons in the neighbourhood thought an explosion had occurred. The victims were treated in the customary gang manner —namely, shot down without chance to defend themselves. All the murderers escaped.
