STAGE AND “TALKIES”
RIVALRY IMPOSSIBLE MR. ALLAN WILKIE’S VIEW "The legitimate stage will be flourishing in a thousand years, when Mr. U. W. Griffith is forgotten,” said Mr. Allan Wilkie, tlie Shakespearian actor, when he arrived in Auckland to-dav. He was commenting on the cabled opinion of Mr. Griffith, the .famous motion picture producer, who said the “talkies” would supersede legitimate stage productions within five years. "A mechanical device, no matter how good cannot take the place of flesh and blood, and reproduce the personality of actors,” said Mr. Wilkie.
