BUILDING PROGRESS
ACTIVITY IN AUCKLAND TWO BIG CONTRACTS Building in the city of Auckland continues to progress actively. Last month permits to the value of £141,804 were issued by the City Council., The figure is £14,205 in excess of that for January, the total for the two months being £269,403. The work of greatest importance covered by last month’s permits is the second portion of the Arcade to connect Queen and Customs Streets. The contract price is £37,000. The first portion of the Arcade facing Customs Street is nearly complete, and demolition of Irvine’s Chambers on the Queen Street frontage is proceeding in preparation for the erection of the second portion of the building. Another construction enterprise of magnitude is the rebuilding of an hotel in Khyber Pass at a contract price of £24,000.
During February permits were issued for 37 dwellings, making the total for the year to date 7S.
