SHAKESPEARIAN SEASON
HIS MAJESTY’S, THIS EVENING
The long-awaited Shakespearian, season opens at Mis Majesty’s Theatre this evening, when Mr. Allan Wilkie’s talented company will present the old favourite “The Merry Wives Of Windsor.”
M.r. 'Wilkie's casting 1 of the principals in this quick-moving comedy provides a well-balanced proportionment of the leading roles. Mr. Wilkie himself makes a massive Falstaff—fat, florid and sadly over-fed on the junketings of the festive board. Miss Hunter-Watts and Miss Lome Forbes will be tlxo two merry wives, who cleverly manipulate the tricking of the fat knight, the basket scene, and Falstaff’s subsequent feminine disguise. Miss Hunter-Watts, as Mistress Ford, one of the two objects of his amorous attentions is happy and engaging in the manner in which she enters into the spirit of the mischief. Miss Forbes is also in happy vein in playing the role of Mistress Page, the other laughter-loving wife. Comic talent of a very high order is displayed by Mr. John Cairns in the role of the ridiculous little Frenchman, Dr. Caius. One of the really outstanding roles in this piece is that of Ford, to be played by Mr. Alexander Marsh, the new-comer. Mr. Marsh is said to be admirable in the varying moods of jealousy and malicious humour in the part of the irate husband. Kxcellent support will be supplied by the remainder of the company. “The Merry Wives Of Windsor” will be presented for this evening only.
