The sitting members may also be nominated. meeting of the Country Racing Vv U -i* Association was being held at llamuton to discuss several matters, including that of representation on the Committee and Conference. Mr. J. T. Young was appointed to represent Waipa at the Country Clubs’ Conierence.
Another subject for discussion at the conference is the dates of race meetings for next season, and it was decided to again ask for mid-December— Saturday, 14th, being preferred. The secretary read a report by the stipendiary steward attending the last race meeting at Te Awamutu racecourse. The report generally was favourable, especially as to the manner in which the meeting was conducted. The following apprentices were recommended: A. B. Amundsen (to Mr. J. 11. Burns) and A. Buchanan (to Mr. F. E. Loomb).
When the resignation of |r. G. J. Hull as an honorary surgeon was read, reference was made to his useful service to the club, and hope was expressed that Dr. Hall would regain his former health.
A vote of £3 3s was made to the Te Awamutu A., F\ and M. Association. Mr. Quin suggested that the club should make some recognition of the fact that a Te Awamutu owner-trainer and his horse had recently won the James Haslett Gold Cup, defeating both Limerick and Rapier at weight-for-age. The horse was trained on the club’s course, yet he was generally credited to Auckland by outside sporting journals.
A resolution was unanimously carried as follows: “That the committee of the Waipa Racing Club offer its hearty congratulations to Mr. Geo. Paul qti the occasion of the win of his horse Aussie in the James Hazlett Gold Cup, especially in view of the fact that Aussie was trained on the club’s course.”
It was stated that hopes were entertained of the Hon. P. A. de la Perrelle visiting Te Awamutu shortly, when Te Awamutu’s claims for an additional totalisator permit would be urged. Messrs. Quin and Wallace were appointed to advance the club’s position and claims at every suitable opportunity. Messrs. Trevor Nicholson (Frontier Road), A. R. Cobbald (Frontier Road) and L. S. Young (Mangapiko) were unanimously elected members of the club.
