DIRT TRACK MOTOR RACING
Within the next fortnight dirt track motor racing will be in full swing in Wellington, the new track at Association Park having been almost completed. A large stadium, capable of seating something like 3 2,000 spectators. has been erected, and a cinder track prepared, and it is expected that attendances for a while will be all that are expected. The ground on which the track has been built belongs to the Wellington Football Association, but it has been something of a “white elephant” for some years. Now. however, the association's troubles should be at an end. as the authority which is controlling the new sport has taken a 50 years’ lease of the ground for six months out of the year, and has in addition built all the seating accommodation without cost to the Football Association, which will have the use of all improvements during the winter season. It is also expected that many large athletic gatherings will be held on the ground, in addition to dirt track racing, as the new appointments, which include electric lighting for night meetings, make the ground eminently suitable for all such purposes. The central portion of the ground is being relaid with turf, and will be used for cricket next summer, while two Soccer grounds also find ample accommodation.
