MINER’S PROTEST
NOTHING FOR HIS WORK An employee on Government relief works to-day made a protest against alleged treatment received at Taumarunui. He said that he had formerly been an experienced miner in England and had been sent from the Labour Bure | \ at Auckland to work in papa clay at Taumarunui. His work was from January 26 to February 21. He was to receive £3 Os 8d half pay, and his wife a similar sum for the remainder of the money due. At the works, his account at the store run in conjunction with the works was £ 3 8s 9d. Since his return to the city the employe© has been asking the department for the money' due to him. To-day a reply was received from the Taumarunui works office saying that, as the store account exceeded the half pay, there would be no money owing. The position now, he says, is that neither he nor his wife has a penny to show for nearly' a month’s work.
