PAYING TAXES
Five Per Gent. More After To-Morrow
Left to Last Moment
John Citizen was highly agitated to-day.
His wife reminded him at the breakfast table that, after to-morrow, he would have to pay 5 per cent, additional tax on the income tax already due from him.
Many other husbands had the same reminder to-day. As a result, the clerk at the counter at the Post Office where income taxes are paid had a strenuous time all day.
Glowering men thrust money across the counter all day. Those who pay income tax develop a distinctive personality. One trait *n it makes them linger until the very last moment to make their repayments.
So, up to 5 o’clock to-morrow, there will be a strenuous rush for the payment counter. What amuses the clerk is that anyone should rush to pay income tax at all.
