BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH
The Birkenhead Borough. Council held its fortnightly meeting last evening, Mr. A. Hadfield, Deputy-Mayor, presiding.
The waterworks engineer reported that the quantity of water pumped during the month was 5,000,000 gallons. The averago supply maintained at the reservoir was 400,000 gallons. The register at Bake Taka puna as at the end of the previous month was Ift 2in. At present it is sin. In connection with the loan work the 4in main has been laid in Wairoa Avenue and connected with the rising main. A similar main is laid in Hutton Road, but not yet connected. Because of repeated damage being done to the -water trough at Gooch’s Corner, it was decided to reA letter was reecived from the Ratepayers’ Association asking for information in connection with fire-fighting equipment, and the proposed sewerage scheme. The questions were left to the Deputy-Mayor to explain at a meeting of the association. The Northcoto Council wrote supporting the Birkenhead Council’s proposals to the Devonport Steam Ferry Company asking for equal charges on the Auck-land-Birkenhead vehicular service to those in force on the Auekland-Devon-port service, and also for the extension of trips in the evening. Three building permits were granted, valued at £ 1,100. Mr. F. E. Powell wrote submitting an agreement in connection with the proposed sewerage scheme. After discussion it was agreed to submit the agreement to a solicitor. A clause was altered to the effect that £4OO is not to be paid until the money for the scheme had been raised, and asking what amount would be paid to Mr. Powell if the loan were not carried.
Permission was granted to Mr. PI. O. Boles to erect two kerb-side pumps outside his property.
