“THE WHITE SHEIK” AT ROYAL
“The White Sheik,” based on the novel, “King’s Mate,” by Rosita Forbes, is now at the Royal Theatre, Kingsland.
The wonderful fascination of East has been captured and woven into the plot with striking fidelity. Miss Forbes is famous the world over for her marvellous books on Eastern life, especially Arabian, and in particular those dealing with the fierce Riff tribes of Northern Africa. The film was enacted amidst the rugged Riff country.
The story itself deals with the adventures of a high-spirited English girl who, while spending a holiday in Fez, wanders into the mountains and is taken prisoner by the Riffs and then taken before their leader, and Englishman, known as “The White Sheik.” Succeeding events prove intensely exciting. The Zane Gray story, “The Water Hole,” starring Jack Holt, will also be shown. LUNA PARK Plenty of variety is provided at the Luna Park Amusement Area every evening. Beside the thrills of the railway, the river caves, the dodgems, the whip, the joy wheel, and the caterpillar, there is a good dance floor, and many sideshows. Two special attractions are announced for to-morrow evening. The first is that the fun factory is open free, and the second is the free appearance of the dare-devil tight-rope walkers, the Brackens. The park is open every evening, and on Saturday afternoon.
