An Out-Patient T. Metcalf, who suffered a fracture of a bone in the wrist of the right hand and of the little finger of the left hand when Hipo fell over Avro at Wanganui, is making favourable progress toward recovery. He is a daily attender at the Palmerston North hospital for treatment. Under A Cloud The Awapuni mentor, G. W. New, his many friends will regret to learn, has been indisposed for t.he past day or two and has been confined to his bed. York Abbey’s Brother A two-year-old full brother to York Abbey is at present being put through the rudimentary stages of his education at Ellerslie by A. M. Robertson. The youngster looks the part and if his breeding counts for anything he should be able to gallop. Sydney Bound Providing he can secure accommodation on the Maunganui—and he was assured that he could —the Ellerslie owner-trainer, H. Rama, will leave flfcr Sydney on Friday. He is taking that good sprinter, Hoariri, and also the full brother to him, Taneriri. It is intended to race the pair at Canterbury Park to commence with, that course being just a few miles out of Sydney. Both horses have got through a good sound preparation, and they promise to strip in grand order on the other side of the Tasman. Hoariri is the real hope of the party, and if all goes well with him it will be surprising if he does not pay the expenses of the trip and a bit more besides. On the Tracks Again

Blue Sky, the seven-year-old son of Polydamon and Merry Bird, is working along quietly under the direction of J. W. Cathro at Avondale. Blue Sky, conspicuous on account of being a grey horse, has not raced for over 12 months, and the spell may prove of great benefit to the old fellow, for he is looking well. A Cup Fancy

Third in the Takapuna Jockey Club Handicap at the Shore meeting just on a month ago, and reckoned unlucky at that, Hyde Park has not raced since, but he is in the Franklin Cup and at present is one of the prime fancies. He is working along satisfactorily at Ellerslie and one or two rousing gallops should see him ready to put up a big fight for the principal honours.

MARLBOROUGH’S DAY

TO-MORROW’S PROGRAMME ARROWMIR AND THE SPRINT The Marlborough Racing Club will hold its autumn meeting at the Waterlea course to-morrow and on Saturday, with a trotting fixture sandwiched in on Friday. There are also two trotting events on the card at Waterlea each day. Fair fields will be seen in action to-morrow, but a number of horses claim more than one engagement; It is not often that the winner of an open race at Riccarton is taken to Blenheim, but Arrowmir is an exception. He beat Meadowlark and Silver Coot over seven furlongs at Riccarton last Saturday, and on that showing he must be hard to head off in tomorrow’s sprint. Miss Pat, a dogged little mare which takes a lot of shaking off, may be the one to trouble the

Arrowsmith gelding most. The Cup field is undoubtedly a weak one, and Royal Game, if in the mood, would not need to do his best to account for them. The following should be well backed in their engagements: Novices’ Hack. Tourist and Acredity. Marlborough Cup.—lmarosebud and Royal Game. Pelorous Hack Handicap.—Bissac Arrow Boy. Summer Handicap.—Arrowmir and Miss Pat. Brookby Handicap.—Freezeout and First Ruler. Blenheim Handicap.— Royal Game and Imarosebud. R. J. Mackie and the apprentice horseman, R. G. Stratton, will be in attendance at the fixture, the former having been engaged to ride Accredity, Royal Game, Quantum, Tresham, and Arrow Boy, while the latter will pilot Painting, Fallow, and Degree in their engagements.

The acceptances are as follow:

For Hurdle Races One could be excused for stating that Baylydamon. is a poor sort of racehorse, that is, taking a line on his performances in the past. However, since the Polydamon gelding came under W. Gall’s charge he has continued on the right way, and is now in tip-top order, having built up quite a lot in recent weeks. His mission this winter will be jumping, and the promise he has given in this department has been sufficient to expect him to do well later on.

Australian Abroad Frank Bullock, whom the cables tell us has gone to France to train for the leading French owner, M. Wittouch, is a native of North Melbourne, and did all his early riding in Victoria. Bullock rode his first winner at Flemington. Bullock has already had racing experience in France, where he rode Comrade to victory in the Grand Prix de Paris, and he won the French Derby on Ksar. Bullock was successful in the Melbourne Cup on Blue Spec. Last year he trained at Caulfield, and won races with Narky and others. Bullock is a brother-in-law of the well-known jockey, Bob Lewis.

good style, while Gold Treasure should make a decent showing in this company. Great Ballin will require a

race or two, but if Zealous is at the peak she will be hard to head off. Single Mint is a possibility and Lady Linda is an improving pacer. Gold Cast and Vanity Boy are a likely pair, and if Haerenga Pai left the peg she would make it interesting. Limosa is a good pacer that will make the front lot shift some. A probable quartet will be Carmel, Zealous, Vanity Bpy and Limosa. Waikato Cup Class is strongly represented in the chief event, and the race should be one of the best yet witnessed for the valuable trophy. Wraekler will make the strongest appeal of the limit contingent, and will be a tough customer to head off. Medusa is a likely sort, while Napland is trotting so solidly that he must have a fightnng chance. Gold Dial has to go right, of course, but Florent is a solid pacer that will be in at the kill. Torpedo Huon and Nelson Tasker are a pair that will trouble Wraekler, while Lady Bunmore is nicely placed. This mare always puts up good performances at Claudelands. The Berry bracket, Jean McElwyn and Bundas Boy, will be strongly favoured, with Wraekler, Nelson Tasker and Torpedo liuon finding plenty of friends Members’ Handicap Although only eight colour the card for the chief square-gaiters’ event, they are a good lot, and the contest will be well worth travelling a journey to witness. Four good ones in Koro Peter, Bright Light, Anseline and Etta Cole figure on the front of the handicap, and while it seems almost assured that the winner i* concealed here. Gold Sovereign and Peter McKinney are a pair that will extend the best of the front-liners. Then Jhere is The Tartar, who is apt to do anything, and Mutu only needs to strike form again to be marked dangerous. Etta Cole, Bright Light, Koro Peter and Anseline should collar the market Raglan Handicap

Nine is the main in this two-mile heat for improving pacers, but there is enough material to make the task of selecting a likely pair to get the dividend places decidedly * difficult. Lady Barrington, if she takes it on seriously, would make it hard for the opposition, and Bad’s Hope, if lie paced solidly, would be a sound proposition. Rolfe Audubon and Limosa are a pair of young ones on the end that may go the journey, and if they can see it out to the bitter end will give a lot of trouble to the opposition. Andover has the best credentials of the remainder, and with Lady Barrington, Limosa and Rolfe Audubon, will form a well-fancied quartet. Waipa Handicap

There is not an unwieldy field in the sprint race, but it will not be devoid of interest, and the winner will take some finding. On the front is Nella Billon, a smart beginner, and this will b© to her advantage. Cornelian has yet to live up to her early reputation, but in the small field she may make amends. Tony Victor is back to form, and here is his chance to get some money. Curfew Boy will be a dangerous customer, and Halgana has winning form to recommend her, and she is sure to be a nuisance. Gold Dial is speedy, but Medusa will be hard, while Wraekler is a good one Medusa, Wraekler, Tony Victor and Halgana read best at present. Dominion Handicap

This is the heat where the free legged pacers mix it with the trotter:

and there should be keen competition for the prize between both sections. I Koro Peter looks well in on the front, ! but Trustworthy is one that will be ' troublesome. Wild Nut is a solid plodder, and will be handy at the end. Anseline is nicely placed. and this should be her chance for a. stake Bright Light is improving in stamina and should run a good race, while the pacer Bell Dial is a great little mare without the straps. Childe Audubon

is always dangerous in races of this description, and The Tartar must not be despised. It looks like a battle royal between the pacers Trustworthy and Bell Dial and the trotters Bright Light and Anseline. Farewell Handicap The final race of the day has filled well, and backers will have a chance of making up for losses or increasing their winnings. Lord Lu off the front is usually a good beginner, and if he hops out will take catching, while

Mountain Dell is a young improver that should soon secure a stake. Nella Billon is a smart one, and Gold Cast, if in his best form, will be a tough customer. Haerenga Pai only requires to kick off correctly to have a good show, and Regret will be in the picture for a portion of the journey, at any rate. Bell Dial may prefer the two-mile go, but Marionette is about due to break the spell. Enawah has yet to show she will leave the peg before she can be taken in confidence, but Admiral Lock is sure to do It right. Maid of the Mountains and Dad’s Hope are none too reliable, but Anselm is a class above the rest, and despite his handicap will, with Gold Cast, Admiral Lock and Nella Dillon be most sought after. ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT “Subscriber” (Whakatane).—ln the Hazlett Gold Cup at Wingatui last Saturday week, Aussie and Limerick each carried 71b penalty, making their weight 9.8.
