Mt. Eden Bowlers to Shift Headquarters
CHANGE OVER NEXT SPRING
PRESENT PROPERTY FOR SALE
The Mount Eden Bowling Club is removing next spring to its new property, which is situated on the Nicholson Park reserve on the Mount Eden side of Epsom Avenue. The club’s present freehold property on Mount Eden Hoad is now advertised for sale. When the club takes over its new property it will have two full-sized greens and a four-rink green. The playing area can be extended as occasion arises to accommodate 24 rinks. The club contemplates building an up-to-date two-storeyed pavilion in brick. The greens are now formed and ready for sowing in March, and will be established sufficiently in October, when the club will open the new area for play. AREA VESTED IN COUNCIL
The new property is under the trust of the Mount Eden Borough Council, who formed the. greens ready for sowing. The club will pay a rental to the council sufficient to cover a substantial interest on the outlay. The advent of the Mount Eden Club’s acquisition of the new area again marks the tendency in Auckland of the development of large bowling clubs rather than the formation of further small clubs as bowling progresses. Recently the Carlton Club formed a new additional green, making a total of 30 rinks. This was followed similarly at Remuera, where the total is 36 rinks, and at the Auckland Club, 22 rinks. The Mount Eden Club has not had sufficient playing area to accommodate its members for some time past, and the nfew grounds will supply this want adequately.
