MAIL ROBBERY CHARGE

ACCUSED AGAIN IN COURT FURTHER CRIME ALLEGED SHOP ENTERED AND BURNED Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. The four men arrested last week in connection with t*ie mail robbery on the ferry steamer Wahine appeared again at the Police Court this morning, each of the accused being charged with another offence. Richard Ryan. George Wilfred Ryan and Thomas Gordon were charged with having, on or about January 11, broken and entered by night the shop of Robert Young Shearer, of Lower Ilutt. and stolen women’s and men’s wearing apparel of a total value of about £9O. Henry William Bevan was charged Iliac between January 22 and February 3. he received from Gordon goods valued at £ll 6s 6d, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. All were remanded till to-morrow, tho date to which the previous charges were remanded, Bevan alone being allowed bail. When counsel asked for bail for Richard Ryan, who, he said, was not concerned with breaking into the shop and would be able to establish a defence, tho chief-detective said that when the four men were admitted to bail last week the facts in the other charges were not known. The shop in Lower I-Tutt had not only been broken into and the goods stolen, but it had been set fire and damaged to an extent of £1.750.
