TEMPTED TO SHAVE

RECTOR AND HAIR-COMBING The rector of Finchley, N., England, the Rev. Stewart Bernays, writes in his parish magazine that complaint has been made to him of girls powdering their noses during church services. He adds; “I suffered myself at the theatre a few months ago by a girl combing her hair between the scenes over my dress clothes. I was tempted In my mid-Vic-torian wrath to take my shaving things with me next time and see how a good shave would interest the audience. Anyhow it would be cleaner than brushing one’s hair over other people. “But when it comes to performing one’s toilet in a church we seem to have reached the limit of bad manners. I purposely leave out the question of irreverence, but even the most shiny nose might be left in its native element till our worship of God is over.”
