CAMBRIDGE FOUR WINS CAMERON POLO CUP
DING-DOING TUSSLE (From Our Own Correspondent) CAMBRIDGE, Saturday. There was a large attendance at Mr. James Taylor s property, ‘•Bardowie,*' today, when three teams from the Matangi Club met the Cambridge Club* representatives. Some exciting polo war seen, especially in the Cameron Cup contest, which was won by Cambridge. The first match was between Matangi C <L. Chitty, R. Oliver, T. Ranstead, J. Chi tty) and Cambridge C (Speake, Garland, K. Butler, C. Taylor), the forme: winning by 7 goals to 2. For the Somers Cup Matangi B (R. Ilinton, R. Ranstead, W. Ranstead, W L. Taylor), 8 goals, beat Cambridge B (A. Fisher, W. Fisher, G. Vosper, J. Butler), 5 goals. The Cameron Cup was the chief attraction of the day’s play, Cambridge A (M. Garland, T. Hines, A. McXicol, G. Blennerhassett), ii goals, beat Matangi A (G. Ranstead, McQueen, R. H. Townsend, V. Chitty), 4 goals. The match produced fast, exhilarating polo, it being a ding-dong go from beginning to end, with nothing between the teams. CLAY-BIRD SHOOTING NEW LYNN GUN CLUB Competition was keen and good at the New Lynn Gun Club's shoot on Saturday. In one match, two men shot the possible, and in the other two shoot-off had to be held to decide the winner. No. 1 match was a shoot of seven birds for the Murrell Cup aggregate. P. N Gallic (14yds) and D. M. Burrett (12yds; shot the possible. No. 2 shoot was a 15-birds match fo: M. Delich’s gold medal. It drew 21 shooters, I_>. M. Burrett (12yds), E. Wilsor. (15yds). A. M. Bartley (11yds), A. Thompson (14yds), B. Hannigan (HydtJ C. Hoffman (12yds), and P. N. Gallia (1» yards), all tied with 14 birds each. 1® the shoot-off Gallie won on the 24th bird, while Hoffman and Bartley tied to second place on the 23rd bird. No. 3 shoot was a seven-bird novie* match for M. H. Tisdail’s trophy. F. < McGeeghan (12yds), M. Pelieh (14yds)- ’ F. Keene (11yds), and A. Thompson (•* . yards), all shot six birds. In the shootoff Keene won on the 14th bird, A Thompson being second on the ISthbirc Delicti and McGeeghan each shot the 12L bird. The next shoot will take place o® March 9.
